Loved the analysis as usual.

I can’t help but think that “Shirley” here is another reference to Shirley Temple.

You're definitely correct. Which gives her quite the connection with Bianca. I'll have to reread to think of that, but it gives me the idea of Shirley Temple now grown up, perhaps becoming a part of the cycle of abuse while trying to convince others that it doesn't exist?

I think so, yes. Also she is relatively “innocent” then has drugs and is corrupted - wearing garters in the last scene. The Zone is a place where no one can remain innocent for too long.

Just like Bianca and Ilse.

This is juxtaposed against “Solange” or Leni Pokler’s fall from grace.

Rather depressing all around to be honest
