just finished Against the Day last night, it strikes me that whenever he has the opportunity to write leftwing radical characters he always chooses anarchists not communists. Pynchon's anarchists still see themselves engaged in class struggle. It appears thats the ideology most appealing to the man himself, i begrudgingly admit

Begrudgingly admit it as well... Though it doesn't detract from the fact that he thinks we clearly need a "left wing" movement to overthrow current powers. But yeah, it seems like he has a massive sympathy toward the anarchist cause as opposed to the socialist/communist cause. I feel like I do remember some communist sympathy as well somewhere in one of his novels. Just can't remember where (or if I'm making it up lol).
